Knit Baby Hat Pattern Using Size 8 Needles

This is the perfect basic easy infant hat knitting pattern; it's been tested hundreds of times, information technology'south a quick, easy knit and it makes a great infant shower souvenir!

You guys! I am soooo excited near this! A couple weeks agone, I was brainstorming with my sketchbook and graph paper, looking over all the patterns I've published and all the patterns I accept already designed but haven't published yet, and trying to figure out what was missing, when something hit me!

I go quite a few questions from people who want to make ane of my hats but are new to knitting and so they have questions. Which is cool, there'southward no better manner to learn than to leap correct in!

Only you know what was totally missing on this site? Basic easy baby hat knitting patterns. (I have them now, cheque 'em all out here!)

It was a large, DUH moment for me. The great thing most easy infant hat knitting patterns is that you tin customize them in a one thousand thousand different means, add two color stripes, add multicolor stripes, add a pom pom on tiptop, brand the brim a different colour, knit in ii different textures of yarn…the list goes on and on.

But y'all can't customize a basic knitting pattern if I don't Requite you a basic knitting pattern.  And aside from my Do-Gooder quick knit hat (which admittedly is pretty awesome, has been downloaded hundreds of times and and is super fast to knit because it uses bulky weight yarn) I don't accept any super easy baby hat patterns!

They make bang-up babe shower gifts, they make slap-up donations to hospitals and charities, and they will all be quick and easy to knit!

The virtually fun matter about working on this series, was that I bought myself some really nice yarn to brand these samples and and then it was just fun to knit them up. And aye, I KNOW I said I rarely knit for babies in wool, just you guys, I needed some diversity!

And then, I picked some pretty colors that would photo well and I enjoyed every minute of working with this gorgeous yarn. Merely if you don't want to splurge, here are my fave yarns for knitting and crochet for babies!

This week we're starting with THE basic easy babe hat knitting blueprint, information technology'south a classic chapeau with a ribbed brim and the balance of the hat knit in stockinette stitch.

This hat is knit in the circular. (Fear not, friends, a flat knit hat is coming!)

It knits up pretty quickly and the rounds of stockinette are piece of cake and soothing to work on.

This basic baby hat pattern is also the base for some of my other fun patterns so yous can balance bodacious that it'south been tested by hundreds of knitters with cracking reviews on Etsy and Ravelry.

Basic Easy Babe Hat Knitting Pattern

(12 mo. size, come across PDF for additional sizes including 0-iii months, 6 months and 2T+)

Bones Easy Baby Lid Knitting Design Supply Listing

Gauge: 20 st. = four inches

Worsted weight yarn

US 7 16″ circular knitting needles

Us 7 double pointed needles

Yarn needle

Basic Piece of cake Baby Chapeau Knitting Pattern Instructions

Using long-tail cast on, cast on 72 stitches onto your circular needles. Join to knit in the round and knit ane stitch, purl i stitch in a rib stitch for four rounds. Then knit all rounds until the lid is about 5 inches long.

Subtract (divide the stitches between 3 double pointed needles and knit with the 4th):

Round i: (k6, k2tog) echo to the end of the round

Round ii: Knit all stitches

Round three: (k5, k2tog) echo to the terminate of the round

Circular iv: Knit all stitches

Round 5: (k4, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round

Round 6: Knit all stitches to the terminate of the round.

Circular 7: (k3, k2tog) echo to the end of the round

Round 8: Knit all stitches to the finish of the circular

Round ix: (k2, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round

Rounds x: Knit all stitches

Round 11: (k1, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round

Round 12:  k2tog repeat to the finish of the round

Cut yarn, thread on yarn needle, pull through loops and close. Weave in ends.
